SERENA INN, STONE TOWN, ZANZIBAR, TANZANIA

For a thousand years, Zanzibar was one of the world's crossroads of trade. The Persians and Islamic Arabs and, much later, the Europeans were attracted to its exotic exports. Stone Town's architectural landmarks express much of the island's cultural heritage. The Zanzibar Serena Inn occupies one of them. Set in two historic sea front buildings that have been masterfully restored, the Serena Inn exploits its grandstand view of the Indian Ocean from every room. The interiors echo the rich Arabian influences as well as indigenous East African roots.

Guest rooms are fully air conditioned, especially comfortable and elegantly furnished. Dining is a feast of variety; local seafood is a specialty and its preparation reflects the many cultural influences that passed this way. A team of chefs creates sumptuous meals, which are served in convivial surroundings. Local seafood is a specialty, the variety matched only by the different methods used in its preparation.

Transport is free to the private Mangapwani Beach with its exclusive beach and water sports activities. There are also excursions to the spice gardens and Jozani Forest. The service is warm, personal and attentive. The Serena Inn is open all year round
.LOCATION
Found on the main island of Unguja, Zanzibar Serena is East Africa's finest sea front inn and is located near historic Stone Town on the western side of Zanzibar Island. The Serena Inn is reached with a brief 10 minute road transfer.
ACCOMODATIONS
Faithfully restored and lavishly embellished with a jackdaw collection of antique clocks, crystal chandeliers, fretwork screens, carved staircases, Persian rugs and brass-studded doors, the interior design concept is a fusion of authenticity and opulence that reflects the very essence of Zanzibar.

Each of the 51 rooms is cool, white and constructed to the traditional design of a Swahili house, which is dependant upon the length of the mangrove poles that make up its ceilings. Adorned with arched niches, antique plates and brass lamps and featuring traditionally carved furniture, cool-ceramics, intricate fretwork, draped beds and louver doors giving onto wrought-iron balconies overlooking the Persian-bath pool and azure bay beyond, each room reflects a blend of essential Zanzibar and world-class elegance.
