Sip, Cycle and Splash! In California’s Napa and Sonoma Wine Country 5 Day / 4 Night – Multisport and Multi-sip Vacation (back)
DAY 1 - Friday Make your way to California for this excellent long weekend of fun and fresh air! Early arrivals meet us in Calistoga for a bike fitting and an optional self-guided 8- mile warm-up ride. Check into your B & B and join other guests for a customary wine and cheese greeting. You’ll have time to visit the town of Calistoga, known as the “Hot Springs of the West”. Dinner is at 7 pm. Suggestions: Calistoga is famous for its Spa treatments and Mud baths. Try a soothing massage at the Silver Rose Spa. It’s a great way to start out the trip. Let us know in advance so we can schedule your treatment.
DAY 2 - Saturday Sip 'n Cycle (Approx 20 miles, easy with mild grades)
Today we'll take an off-the-beaten-path look at the scenic upper Napa Valley. You'll travel along country lanes to small, family-owned wineries that really represent traditional winemaking. We've selected wineries that are large and small, historic and modern, "one man shows" and extraordinary "shrines to wine." Along the way you learn how wine is made and then tour a cellar to see how wine is made into champagne. All in all, you'll travel about 20 miles over mostly flat, easy terrain. A gourmet lunch will be prepared and served at one of the wineries. The tour ends at about 3pm to allow time for you to enjoy a spa treatment before dinner. Dinner is at a local Bistro.
DAY 3 - Sunday Dry Creek Valley Cycling (17 miles, easy with mild grades) Our favorite ride of the trip!
We cycle the small roads of this narrow valley and explore the many picturesque wineries of this less traveled wine region. It is known for Zinfandel and Cabernet grapes, many of which go into the wines you’ve been tasting throughout your trip. We’ll visit Lambert Bridge, Quivira, and Preston among others. Our trip ends at about 3:30 p.m. to allow time for you to have a spa treatment before dinner. Accommodation for the next 2 nights is at the Hotel Healdsburg. Dinner reservations are at 7 p.m. at a local Bistro.
DAY 4 - Monday Canoe Adventure
Today we will canoe the Russian River. The river is warm and clear with the occasional Class ll rapids aimed at the novice or intermediate, and flows through a quiet scenic landscape. We’ll see hawks and egrets and have plenty of opportunities for swim breaks. You are on your own for dinner tonight. Your guides or the concierge will help you to select from the many wonderful restaurants in town.
