This action-packed trip will take you to experience three different regions of Chile, an amazingly beautiful country filled with friendly people and European influences. You will hike the in the world-famous Chilean Patagonia, explore the crystal clear waters of the Lake District, and sample the culinary and cultural delights of Santiago. This trip is perfect for active and moderately active people.

Private groups will have an opportunity to customize our trip to suit their needs, whether it’s wine touring, horseback riding, rock climbing, or tracking an eclipse.

THE LAKE DISTRICT
Upon arrival in Santiago you’ll collect your bags, clear customs and immigration, and immediately head for the domestic terminal and your flight to the Lake District. This lush area is ringed by volcanoes and dotted by lakes.

The next few days will be filled with hiking and rafting, and the evenings will be spent in cabins conveniently located to all the action. You’ll have an opportunity to learn about the indigenous flora and fauna on interpretive walks that will get your legs ready for arrival in Torres del Paine.
The rafting is Class III and a great way to spend some time splashing in the Chilean waterways. An alternative is horseback riding up the Calbuco Volcano – a wonderful way to spend the day!

PATAGONIA
From here you’ll jump on another plane and head to the Magellan Straight and the Chilean side of Patagonia. You will be met by your guide for the Park and assisted with your luggage before setting off. Enroute you will visit a penguin sanctuary and surely get a sampling of the winds common to the “Roaring 40s” (for those checking off their “furthest points” Punta Arenas is approximately 53° 10’ south). The small town of Puerto Natales will be your home for the night. Surprisingly there is a casino and pizza place in this small town mostly populated by tourists. Enroute to the Park you’ll visit the Balmaceda y Serrano glaciers, where you’ll go trekking and enjoy lunch outdoors. In the afternoon you’ll navigate the Serrano River in a “zodiac” boat to Torres del Paine National Park.
Welcome to the world famous Torres del Paine National Park! During the next several days you’ll be hiking through a landscape of lagoons, glaciers and virgin forests, see famous geologic landmarks that you’ve dreamed of for years, and feel the strength of the winds that race
unchallenged around the base of the southern hemisphere.

You may even spot condors with their enormous wingspan circling above as they eye fox, hares and guanacos – the Park’s native fauna – below. For those on our tour during the season of the southern summer solstice, the sun will be setting quite late in the evening and will rise at a respectably early hour, allowing you almost 18 hours of daylight for your activities.

On our way into the Park you’ll take a boat to Grey Glacier where you’ll spend the afternoon hiking and climbing on the glacier. This will be your first night in a refugio. These are rustic cabins that offer hot meals, indoor plumbing (just in case you were wondering), and dorm style sleeping accommodations. They are a great place to gather with other world travellers after a day’s hike. As we near the end of our trip, you’ll exit the Park and transfer back to Punta Arenas for a very cool boat tour before ending the day back in this interesting port town at the base of the world.
SANTIAGO
It is now near the end of your trip and time to fly back north to Santiago. You’ll be doing some touring as a group, with lots of fun things on the agenda, but you’ll also have a time for exploring this lively city on your own. Visit the city markets and neighborhoods, dine in the local restaurants, or walk around the historical sites and museums. For those who want to extend their trip, we can pre-arrange a private car and driver for a mountain or ocean day trip (both are quite fun!).
