Avid anglers and beginners alike head for Africa to experience the thrill of fishing for Tiger Fish considered the top freshwater game fish in the world. (pop up box: Hydrocynus vittatus, like the piranha, is found in selected rivers in Africa. This carnivorous fish will provide anglers with an exciting battle whether you fish conventionally or by fly.) Additionally, there are over 70 species of fish that call the Zambezi home, though the Okavango is equally renowned. At least a dozen of these species, such as Tilapia, Largemouth bream, Catfish, Haplochromis and African pike are also prized by anglers and provide an enviable selection.
Now it’s possible to book our unique Fly Fishing Package where all has been readied at three wonderful private lodges for epic battles with a wide variety of hard-fighting angling species. At each lodge, you will be guided by professionals and enjoy, by way of motorized boat, the best that these rivers can offer. Apart from excellent angling, superb game viewing and outstanding birding will be experienced. Each of the five rivers holds tiger fish offering up the first challenge – to hook a tiger in each of the rivers. Such is the tenacity of the tiger fish that landing those that take hold will be an even more impressive feat. Yet the rivers offer such a wonderful bounty of water habitat, that an enviable species of fish will readily take a fly.
Non-fishing companions will enjoy their days experiencing all that the area has to offer, whether game viewing from vehicles or mokoros (hand-carved boats), rafting the great Zambezi, or enjoying a peaceful afternoon in your own cool plunge pool. In the evening enjoy sundowners along the river or gather with the other game anglers in the lodge’s bar to swap tales of the tigers.
DAYS 1 - 2: OKAVANGO DELTA GUMA – 2 nights Arrive Maun Airport (own arrangements). Transfer by light aircraft to Guma Island Lodge. Guma Island Lodge lies in the very heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Down the panhandle of the Okavango River, anglers can enjoy a feast of fly fishing adventures, with a wide variety of species. In addition to covering the main stem of the river, they can explore many hidden & secretive lagoons.
DAYS 3 - 4: KWANDO RIVER SUSUWE– 2 nights Transfer by light aircraft to Susuwe Island Lodge. Susuwe Island Lodge overlooks the winding and intimate Kwando River, which meanders through the game-filled savannah of the Bwabwata National Park. Here the narrow channels of the Kwando ask more of the angler’s guile, yet the silver tigers are present lurking within subtle backwaters.
DAYS 5 - 8: ZAMBEZI/KASAI/CHOBE RIVERS
IMPALILA - 3 nights Transfer by light aircraft to Impalila Island Lodge. From Impalila Island Lodge, the stage is set for tough tussles with the heavyweight Zambezi tigers & the most striking of the largemouth bream species - the Nembwe. The lodge is a mere stone’s throw from the Mambova rapids on the Zambezi and is the launch pad for many miles of enthralling angling upstream on the famous river. Less known yet not to be discounted, is the Kasai channel, which links the Zambezi with the Chobe. Given such parentage, the Kasai is capable of producing monsters within its relatively short length, before one tests the dark waters of the Chobe.
DAY 08 TOUR ENDS Transfer by light aircraft to Victoria Falls Airport where your tour ends. Additional add-on packages to Victoria Falls are available on request.
