Fundu is on Pemba Island, the sister island to Zanzibar lying across the Pemba Channel to the north. The hotel is situated on a remote and beautiful beach on the south western side of the island and is only accessible by boat. There are 16 tented bungalows, offering spacious accommodation inside and out, set under makuti (thatch) roofs on wooden decks and each with a view over the ocean. The modern ethnic design extends throughout the resort, which offers two bars, a game and television room, chill out areas and an excellent restaurant serving local and international cuisine.
The venue for dinner changes each evening. It's all part of keeping things interesting at Fundu. Sometimes dinner is served on the deck close to the jetty and illuminated by lanterns. At other times it's in the open-walled restaurant or on the beach under the stars with a fire crackling away.
Fundu Lagoon is closed mid-April to mid-June.
LOCATION Getting to Pemba Island from Zanzibar is part of the adventure and requires all three modes of transport: planes, taxis and boats. Following the 30-minute flight to Pemba Airport, you’ll take a 20-minute taxi drive through lush fruit plantations and thatched villages. Then it's a 30-minute speedboat trip to the lodge. The speedboat pulls up at a 200-meter long jetty, which you walk along, that leads to a white beach and the lodge.
ACCOMMODATIONS The rooms are raised on wooden platforms, all offering stunning ocean views, and are constructed using luxury tents with traditional Zanzibar roofing to maintain the natural feel of the resort. The stylish external design provides a backdrop for the generously furnished interiors; each bungalow has its own balcony and en-suite facilities, hand crafted from local hardwood.
Four of the 16 accommodations are suites with their own private chill out decks and plunge pools. Two of which are superior beach suites with extensive space to relax and a large plunge pool.

SCUBA DIVING Pemba Island is remote and relatively unknown. The tiny traditional villages of Pemba have had little impact on the coast and the coral reefs around Pemba are largely in pristine condition. Pemba is surrounded by dramatic and exciting coral reefs stretching as far as the eye can see. The colorful Indian Ocean marine life can therefore breed and interact along the plunging coral walls that so well symbolize Pemba Island. Large pelagic fish swim and hunt amongst the thousands of small, brightly colored reef fish that play around the plunging drop-offs and in the turquoise waters of the shallows - an underwater naturalist's dream. Pemba is now listed as one of the top dive spots in the world. . Dive 710 is run by trained PADI instructors with many years of experience of diving in Pemba and Zanzibar. Their team of local islanders provides expert training and insider knowledge on all aspects of diving in the area. At Dive 710, the emphasis is on getting the most fun out of the sport whilst retaining the utmost respect for the environment and for diver safety.
