RAS NUNGWI BEACH HOTEL, ZANZIBAR, TANZANIA

On the northernmost peninsula of Zanzibar, the Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel overlooks a sparkling expanse of iridescent Indian Ocean. The lush gardens drop down onto one of the finest and most unspoiled beaches on the island, which in turn is fringed by a wide and thriving coral reef. Infused with the laid-back and exotic, yet ultimately natural spirit of Zanzibar, this is the place to relax and enjoy all that this extraordinary part of the world has to offer. In designing Ras Nungwi, great attention has been paid to detail. Natural materials have been used wherever possible, including makuti (palm-leaf) roofing over all structures, creating the feeling of freedom that is only possible in an open-air environment. With a network of pathways connecting the different hotel areas, and the strikingly ethnic design elements, Ras Nungwi is certainly a unique beach hotel. It bears little resemblance to other East African resorts or other Zanzibar Hotels.

Renowned for their spicy island fare and sumptuous seafood buffets, the Zanzibarian chefs will ensure appetites whetted by fun in the sea or the hotel’s pool are well satisfied. Fresh fish barbecues under the stars are a popular specialty whilst the coconut curries are completely irresistible.  Ras Nungwi is closed April to May.

LOCATION
Ras Nungwi is on the north coast of Zanzibar’s main island, Unguja, 50 miles from Stone Town and requires a 75 minute road transfer from the airport, which may be shortened upon completion of new roads.
